There's a scene I really love,

so I occasionally rewatch the movie "Almost Famous."

 

Actually,

when I was creating the OLD FLANNEL series,

the vague image I had in mind

was William's room from this movie.

 

 

William, the protagonist,

is a boy who's only interested in music, not at all cool, and his room is far from stylish,

 

yet, in that small room cluttered with records,

the checkered patterns were what truly stuck with me.

 

 

Rather than a clear idea,

it was more like "a room with this kind of atmosphere,"

something I kept in the back of my mind.

Then, the other day,
I was surprised when I rewatched it after a long time;

 

it's quite similar.

This bedspread, for example,

 

 

 

or these curtains.

 

 

 

Even I was surprised,

 

realizing that I remembered it not just vaguely,

but quite strongly.

 

 

It's not a major scene,

and if you ask "what was so special about this room?",

I can't quite explain it, but...

it seems this room resonated with me a lot more than I realized.

More than I was conscious of.

 

 

I once read somewhere that "love you can't explain is real love" (laughs).

Lately, I've been thinking,

 

 

it's strange how,

when it comes to things or moments that truly ignite your heart,

you don't encounter them if you "aim" for them.

 

 

Perhaps it's because I've developed a habit of only accessing information I want,

thinking "this is useless, this is useful,"

 

but sometimes I feel like I don't even know what I like anymore,

and I've become less sensitive to what truly moves my heart.

 

 

I really need to spend my time more,

letting myself be guided by my mood and intuition,

even welcoming "unnecessary" things.

 

 

Otherwise, I feel like the things you wouldn't encounter otherwise

are often the most important in life.

 

 

Just a feeling.
